Mindset Mondays with DTK – Ep #106 — Life looks fabulous on Facebook.

In 2005, my company had just celebrated its 10th anniversary. I’d been married for 13 years to a woman I’d loved since we were pre-teens. We had the big house, three kids in private school, two dogs. And everything looked fantastic … on the surface. But I was one my way to being completely dead inside.

And this is exactly what Warren Buffet was talking about when he said:

“You never know who’s swimming naked until the tide goes out.”

When we compare ourselves to others based on what we see them present to the world, how often are we comparing ourselves to an artfully curated image, a picture-perfect social media persona, our just seeing them through our lens? What if that energy expended in status-checking and comparing was spent focusing on doing the work, following a calling, making an impact That is the best tack … because the tide always goes out at some point.

Do your work. Don’t get caught swimming naked.
