Mindset Mondays with DTK – Ep #055 – Learning opportunities rock! The eye rolls come like clockwork! The moment any of my children heard me say "a challenge is just an opportunity for learning" the eyes rolled back in their heads as if in a desperate search for an exit sign behind them. And the mere mention of the satisfaction from overcoming a challenge got their feet moving, too. The parenting win came through their fascination with the movie "A League of Their Own." One of the kids' favorite scenes (and mine) has Geena Davis' character justifying quitting the women's professional baseball league by saying: "It just got too hard." Her coach, played by Tom Hanks, responds: "It's the hard that makes it good!" Joshua J Marine captured it best with his quote:"Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful."It's SO easy to look at the world around us and see an endless list of "problems" staring back at me. In fact, that used to be my default. I saw life as it wasn't and all the obstacles in the way of making it what I wanted it to be. It turns out most people have a similar default, albeit unconscious. Of the myriad gifts I've gotten from being married to an amazing woman and from raising three complex (and amazing) kids together, the most life-changing for me was learning to see challenges as the learning opportunities that they truly are. And my life is all the more meaningful for overcoming those challenges (or embracing those learning opportunities)!I'll share some of them – the personal, the professional, the spiritual – during this week's broadcast. What meaning awaits you?

The eye rolls come like clockwork! The moment any of my children heard me say “a challenge is just an opportunity for learning” the eyes rolled back in their heads as if in a desperate search for an exit sign behind them. And the mere mention of the satisfaction from overcoming a challenge got their feet moving, too. The parenting win came through their fascination with the movie “A League of Their Own.” One of the kids’ favorite scenes (and mine) has Geena Davis’ character justifying quitting the women’s professional baseball league by saying: “It just got too hard.” Her coach, played by Tom Hanks, responds: “It’s the hard that makes it good!” Joshua J Marine captured it best with his quote:

“Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”

It’s SO easy to look at the world around us and see an endless list of “problems” staring back at me. In fact, that used to be my default. I saw life as it wasn’t and all the obstacles in the way of making it what I wanted it to be. It turns out most people have a similar default, albeit unconscious. Of the myriad gifts I’ve gotten from being married to an amazing woman and from raising three complex (and amazing) kids together, the most life-changing for me was learning to see challenges as the learning opportunities that they truly are. And my life is all the more meaningful for overcoming those challenges (or embracing those learning opportunities)!

I’ll share some of them – the personal, the professional, the spiritual – during this week’s broadcast.
